The North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR), through its economic development initiative known as NCRR Invests, will invest $1.5 million to help construct a railroad industrial lead track, switches and related infrastructure to serve Charlotte Pipe and Foundry in Stanly County, North Carolina.
A manufacturer and distributor of cast iron and plastic pipe fittings, Charlotte Pipe and Foundry recently announced it's moving its production facility from Charlotte to Stanly County. The NCRR will participate in the project to build the rail infrastructure that will serve the company's new facility, NCRR officials said in a press release.
"Rail infrastructure is extremely important in attracting high quality, capital intensive manufacturers and distributors to our state," said NCRR President Scott Saylor. "Occasionally, those companies need room to expand their site footprint or operation. Through NCRR Invests, we are able to assist in addressing the freight-rail infrastructure needs of companies like Charlotte Pipe and Foundry in order to retain jobs during this crucial moment for our economy, as well as future growth opportunities."
Charlotte Pipe and Foundry's new plant will be served by the Aberdeen, Carolina and Western Railway with connections to Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX.
