RMI continues to build railroad, shipper customer base

During the first quarter, RMI added five short lines and five shippers to its list of customers using RailConnect® software and Web-based services.

Richmond Pacific Railroad, Progressive Rail Inc., AT&L Railroad Co. and shipper ENAP are using RailConnect to electronically track raw materials, monitor inventory and manage bulk loads — processes they used to control through paperwork, according to a RMI statement.

Steel shipper International Steel Group used RMI's services to centralize the computer systems of its recently acquired railroads, while Georgia Midland and shipper Carload Express transitioned from a single user PC-based system to RailConnect's Web-based portal, which is designed to support multiple locations.

Also, Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Corp. and shipper Unimin are using RMI's Equipment Management Services (EMS) to manage their rail-car fleets and increase car-hire earnings.

"Improving operational agility and eliminating time-intensive manual processes continues to be at the forefront of our customers' minds," said RMI Vice President Paul Pascutti.

Currently, more than 200 railroads use RailConnect to help manage day-to-day operations, RMI officials said.
