Washington Eastern Railroad obtains grant funds to upgrade crossings

Washington Eastern Railroad has received $160,000 in grants from the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) for safety upgrades at grade crossings in Grant, Lincoln and Spokane counties.

The short line will replace outdated crossing equipment and train detection systems at eight crossings. Washington Eastern is eligible for up to $20,000 in grant funding per project and will cover all additional costs, UTC officials said in a press release.

Project locations include: Brooks Road in Medical Lake; Craig Road in Four Lakes; Medical Lake-Four Lakes Road in Four Lakes; State Route 28 in Davenport; State Route 231 in Reardan; State Route 902 in Medical Lake; State Route 904 in Cheney; and State Route 2 in Coulee City.
