OmniTRAX Inc. affiliate Winchester & Western Railroad (W&W) has signed an agreement to serve Commercial Metals Co.’s (CMC) latest steel mill in West Virginia.

CMC, a large manufacturer of steel rebar in North America and Central Europe, selected Falling Waters, West Virginia, for its new facility. Located on the W&W rail line, the site provides extensive market access, OmniTRAX officials said in a press release.

The CMC mill project was a joint economic development effort by OmniTRAX, West Virginia state leaders and Berkeley County officials. The W&W supplemented a state and county incentive package with a custom rail service agreement and additional infrastructure investments to secure West Virginia’s successful site selection pursuit, OmniTRAX officials said.

CMC anticipates the mill will open in late 2025.

"By combining the efficiency of rail transportation with a strategic location that can efficiently reach two-thirds of the nation’s population, this new mill is a model of supply-chain optimization," said OmniTRAX CEO Dean Piacente.
