The Indiana Rail Road Co. (INRD) has begun construction of a container yard at its Senate Avenue Intermodal Terminal in Indianapolis.

The facility spans nearly 6 acres and directly connects to the railroad's terminal expansion completed in December 2022, railroad officials said in a press release. The new facility will be used to support more than 1,000 empty containers and equivalent chassis.

Construction is expected to wrap up May 1.

"This project is another step to support our international intermodal business, providing flexibility to our shippers while creating capacity for steam ship lines to position their containers near the customer," said INRD President and CEO Dewayne Swindall.
