North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) recently was named a partner in Siemens Energy’s manufacturing plant expansion project in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Through the NCRR's economic development initiative, the company is investing $100,000 to assist with improvements and upgrades to the existing industry track.
"This investment aligns with our commitment to foster economic growth and innovation in North Carolina. We look forward to the positive impact it will have on our state’s economy and communities for generations to come," said NCRR President and CEO Carl Warren in a press release.
The plant expansion will produce more than 50 rail cars per year at build-out and contribute to the growth momentum within North Carolina’s energy and electric vehicle (EV) industries, NCRR officials said.
The total investment in the Siemens Energy facility will amount to $150 million and bring an additional 475 jobs to Mecklenburg County, NCRR officials said. The project is a collaborative effort between NCRR, the city of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, North Carolina General Assembly and Duke Energy.
In addition to company investment, the project will be supported by a Job Development Investment Grant from the state. Gov. Roy Cooper announced the grant following its approval by the state’s Economic Investment Committee.
