Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) announced Wednesday it now independently owns Central Gulf Railcar Services (CGRS), a rail-car repair shop in Mobile, Alabama.

On Sept. 30, G&W closed a deal involving a partnership with Grupo Mexico Transportes (GMXT) as owners of CG Railway LLC. As part of the transaction, G&W became the owner of CGRS, which can accommodate up to 90 rail cars at a time and offers transload storage for up to 14 cars.

It is G&W’s third dedicated equipment maintenance and repair operation in North America, joining a rail-car facility in Ontario, Canada, and a locomotive maintenance shop in Alberta, Canada.

“With the addition of CGRS, [we] will focus on providing safe and efficient rail-car maintenance in the Mobile area, which can assist shippers in managing their railcar fleets throughout the Southeast United States,” said Kimberly Thompson, G&W's regional vice president of sales and marketing, in a press release.
