The North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) yesterday announced the creation of a disaster and recovery relief grant program for North Carolina communities.
Through the Back-on-Track Disaster Recovery Program, NCRR will provide $10 million in financial assistance based on a needs assessment. NCRR created the program in response to the devastation that Hurricane Helena caused in western North Carolina.
Back-on-Track will provide funding within Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) designated disaster areas to short lines, local rail-served industries in need of track infrastructure repair funding, and local economic development organizations in need of operations support. Grant applications are due Nov. 15. For more information, click here.
"We believe supporting commerce and fixing critical infrastructure are the quickest ways to help communities recover and develop after a disaster," said NCRR President and CEO Carl Warren in a press release. "This program allows us to help our neighbors rebuild and serves as a fund to North Carolina communities facing similar challenges in the future."
