Railinc cuts cost of wireless event-reporting software for small roads

Yesterday, Railinc announced it’s reducing the price of its Web-based RailSync Mobile Command™ software for regionals and short lines to help small roads address “black-holes” or areas where rail-car events aren’t reported.

Train crews can use Mobile Command and a wireless tablet-type, durable personal computer to report rail-car movements and events in real time. Crews receive work requests transmitted to the device, which eliminates the need for telephone, fax and/or radio messages between railroad supervisors and workers.

“Short lines have enthusiastically embraced the concept of wireless computing by train crews, but cost remains the primary hurdle for most operators,” said Railinc Vice President of Business Services Allen West in a prepared statement. "Our new pricing is designed to remove this barrier.”

Through its RailSync suite of Web-based products, Railinc also offers local and interline transportation management, interline data exchange and revenue settlement, and car hire processing services to the short line industry.
