Ohio panel OKs $1.5M grant for rail yard expansion in Youngstown

The Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) recently approved a nearly $1.5 million grant to Youngstown & Southeastern Railroad (YSRR) to help fund an expansion at its Lansingville Yard in Youngstown.

At a total cost of $3 million, the project calls for construction of a five-track yard with 220-car capacity, ORDC officials said in a press release. The new yard will enable YSRR to centralize its storage-in-transit operations, which now is configured in a way which increases train traffic.

“This project is reestablishing a yard that has been vacant for decades and modernizes the rail infrastructure in the area to best support the economic opportunities of today,” said ORDC Executive Director Matthew Dietrich.
