The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) and Iowa Northern Railway Co. have launched the Short Line Training Center.
The new training resource combines an online learning management system (LMS) with a mobile technical training center equipped with locomotive simulators to deliver essential regulatory, compliance and safety courses and materials to employees, ASLRRA officials said in the association's Oct. 5 newsletter.
The LMS is an online platform and hub available at any time to deliver and track industry-specific training and assessments, while the mobile technical training center is equipped with two FRA Type II locomotive simulators, as well as classroom space for six students and an instructor.
Training is available to all short lines. A Federal Railroad Administration grant funded the training center project, association officials said.
Meanwhile, the ASLRRA this week announced the following staffing changes: Zach Radford has been promoted to vice president of congressional affairs; Danialle Lovik, the association's manager of membership and marketing, will take on the new role of manager of membership and technology; and Wayne Whitaker has been hired to serve as the manager of design, marketing and education.
Radford will succeed Tom Lynch, who left the association for a senior position at The Fertilizer Institute.
