Rail News: Short Lines & Regionals

ASLRRA honors Southern Region short lines for safety practices

"Their impressive performance, with either zero reportable accidents, or the best safety rate below the industry average per man-hour of operations, has led the way to record levels of safety performance for the short line industry," said Chuck Baker.

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) recognized several railroads for outstanding safety performance in 2018 at the association's annual Southern Region meeting held Nov. 11-13 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Recipients of the ASLRRA President's Award are industry leaders that strive to value safety above all competing priorities each day, said ASLRRA President Chuck Baker in the association's Nov. 13 newsletter.

"Their impressive performance, with either zero reportable accidents, or the best safety rate below the industry average per man-hour of operations, has led the way to record levels of safety performance for the short line industry," he said.

The Southern Region President's Award recipients are:
• R. J. Corman Railroad Co./Central Kentucky Lines, for most hours of injury-free operation;
• Florida East Coast Railway, for best safety rate, greater than 500,000 man-hours;
• R. J. Corman Railroad Co./Central Kentucky Lines, for best safety rate, 150,000 to 250,000 man-hours;
• R. J. Corman Railroad Co./Memphis Line, for best safety rate, 50,000 to 150,000 man-hours; and
• Alabama Warrior Railway, for best safety rate, less than 50,000 man-hours.

Also at the meeting, Nicole Radford, manager pipelines and wirelines at Florida East Coast Railway, was elected to a two-year term on the Southern Region's board. She succeeds Carolina Coastal Railway President Doug Golden, who completed his board term.
