The Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) last week was recognized with the Rita Sholton Large Business of the Year award during the Alaska Chamber’s Fall Forum.

As part of the chamber's Premier Business Awards, the Large Business of the Year award honors businesses that exemplify leadership, ethics and show consistent community involvement.

"We’re proud of the role we’ve played in Alaska’s economic development over the last 100 years, and look forward to continuing to play a critical role in the century to come," said ARRC President and CEO Bill O’Leary in a press release.

The ARRC employs 600 year-round employees, transports half a million passengers annually, moves nearly 4 million tons of freight, manages 36,000 acres and provides nearly $1 million in in-kind contributions of rail transportation services and supports 400 charitable organizations.
