BNSF Railway Co. has added Iowa-based Burlington Junction Railway (BJRY) to its new Shortline Select Program.

BJRY will collaborate with BNSF on economic growth and provide rail switching services to the Class I’s customers, according to a BJRY press release.

Launched in September, the Shortline Select program enables participating short lines to improve their operations  with predefined economic arrangements with BNSF. BJRY is one of three short lines recently chosen for the program, BJRY officials said. BNSF also recently added the Texas North Western Railway (TXNW Railway) and Portland & Western Railroad to Shortline Select.

The program combines short lines' benefits of service with BNSF’s network, BJRY officials said. As a participant, BJRY will be included in BNSF’s transload program, a network of more than 400 transloaders.

Additionally, select locations on BJRY may be eligible for BNSF’s Certified Site designation, which provides developers with an inventory of available, rail-ready sites that are preapproved for industrial development.

BNSF launched ShortLine Select in September, with Genesee & Wyoming Inc. subsidiary Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway as the first to participate.
