Bogalusa Bayou Railroad acquires Louisiana rail line

Watco's Bogalusa Bayou Railroad has purchased the Geaux Geaux Railroad from Amzak Capital Management. The 26-mile short line runs from Slaughter to Zee, Louisiana.

The railroad currently provides service to Hood Container, a paper and packaging company. Acquiring the line opens opportunities for exploration in providing rail-car storage in several Louisiana industrial hubs including Geismar, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge, Watco officials said in a news release.

Geaux Geaux Railroad’s access to large tracts of land adjacent to the rail line offers an opportunity for the development of manufacturing or distribution facilities, they said. The short line interchanges with CN in Baton Rouge.

"Our team has been operating the Geaux Geaux Railroad since 2018. As the owner of the line, we can continue to leverage our experience in several service areas to build on the current business," said Watco Sales Manager Dave Riggs. "We're excited to create value for our current and future customers, with options to improve their supply chains."
