Charlotte Western Railroad, a subsidiary of Jaguar Transport Holdings, began rail operations yesterday in North Carolina.
The railroad operates 13 miles of track leased from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. It also has access to two Class Is — Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX — as well as a rail-served warehouse the company acquired, said Jaguar CEO Stu Towner in a press release.
Charlotte Western will soon move forward with a project in partnership with NCDOT to build a new multicommodity and multimodal transload facility on the warehouse property, Towner added.
"We are excited for the opportunity to establish our first operation in North Carolina and the southeastern United States," said Towner. "The railroad's location ... provides us with an excellent opportunity to serve current and future customers and earn the right to grow alongside them and the local community."
The short line is the eighth railroad owned and operated by Jaguar. Other holdings include Missouri Eastern Railroad, Cimarron Valley Railroad, Southwestern Railroad, Washington Eastern Railroad, Oregon Eastern Railroad, Texas Eastern Railroad and West Memphis Base Railroad.
