The Willmar City Council in Minnesota last week approved a $1.16 million purchase agreement with Midwest & Bluegrass Rail for 145 acres that will be developed as the Willmar Rail Park.

The property is located in the Willmar Industrial Park. The planned rail park will be owned, developed and managed by Midwest & Bluegrass, an independent freight railroad and rail services management company, the West Central Tribune reported.

Willmar Rail Park will feature a rail loop that extends from Willmar Wye, with four spurs stretching into the park to accommodate various businesses. A project to construct the loop was completed in October 2022, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Midwest & Bluegrass operates four short lines: Camp Chase Railway, Chesapeake & Indiana Railroad, Vermilion Valley Railroad and Youngstown & Southwestern Railroad.
