Detroit's Delray Connecting Railroad reaches the century mark

Delray Connecting Railroad Co. (DCRR) is marking an event that's rather uncommon for a short line — its 100th anniversary.
The 15.5-mile short line was incorporated under Michigan laws on March 24, 1904, and began operating on July 1 of that year.
"Since 1904, the DCRR has taken pride in providing quality service to all our customers," said General Manager H.J. "Sonny" Sebastian in an email sent to ProgressiveRailroading.com.
The switching and terminal railroad — whose line is located in Detroit's down-river district — interchanges with CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway and Canadian National Railway Co., and moves about 20,000 annual carloads. Last year, United States Steel Corp. purchased DCRR from National Steel Corp.
