Tarantula Corp. and Fort Worth & Western Railroad Co. (FWWR) have acquired the Texas Central Railroad (TEXC) from Birdsong Corp. The acquisition closed June 30.

FWWR has leased and operated the TEXC since December 1988. Now as the short line's owner, FWWR can invest in maintenance and infrastructure to enhance TEXC's operational efficiency and service capabilities for existing customers, FWWR officials said in a press release.

TEXC spans over 26 miles, providing an essential link to the FWWR mainline in Dublin, Texas, they said. FWWR operates 276 miles of track through eight counties in north central Texas, from Carrollton to Brownwood, and interchanges with BNSF Railway Co., Canadian Pacific Kansas City, Union Pacific Railroad and Texas Pacifico Transportation Ltd.

Overall, TEXC connects FWWR to the three Texas counties it crosses, serving the towns of Dublin, De Leon and Gorman.

"Acquiring the Texas Central Railroad supports the region’s long-term growth and business development while aligning with FWWR’s vision for the future,” said Kevin Erasmus, president and CEO of FWWR and Davoil Inc.
