G&W short line to serve new Fort Wayne intermodal facility
Transpoint Intermodal LLC, a Mexico-based logistics company, has begun construction on a $13.5 million cargo transfer facility in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The new facility will be served by the Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern Railroad, which is owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc.
The intermodal center will be located on 74 acres near Adams Center and Paulding Roads, where international shipping containers will be moved from truck-to-rail or rail-to-truck, according to a press release.
Construction is expected to be finished by April 2017, with operations slated to start in May 2017.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered the company $550,000 in conditional tax credits.
"Global companies like Transpoint Intermodal are choosing Indiana for job creation because of our state's central location, our continued investments in infrastructure, and our efforts to create a pro-growth business climate," said Gov. Mike Pence in a prepared statement.
