Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) yesterday announced its Rail Link Inc. subsidiary obtained a rail service contract from the Port of Caddo-Bossier in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Rail Link will move inbound and outbound materials for the port. Located on the Red River Waterway, the port complex is served by Union Pacific Railroad and has local access to Kansas City Southern.
An inland multimodal transportation and distribution center at the port links shippers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas to domestic and international markets via the Mississippi River and Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
"Given Rail Link's domestic and international transportation and logistics breadth, I expect immense growth in our rail traffic and access to markets we have been unable to reach," said Port of Caddo-Bossier Executive Director Eric England in a press release.
The port currently has 11 rail-served customers shipping a wide variety of commodities, including metals, paper and chemicals, said Rail Link President Andrew Chunko.
"The port has done a great job building that rail business and supporting its customers, and we likewise look forward to building long-term relationships based on safety, service and mutual growth," he said.
G&W subsidiaries also provide rail and switching services at Gulf Coast ports in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Galveston and Corpus Christi, Texas. G&W owns or leases 120 freight railroads, including 114 regionals and short lines in North America.
