Genesee & Wyoming short line to serve diesel exhaust fluid terminal in Ohio

The Mahoning Valley Railway Co. (MVRY) will serve Pilot/Flying J's new diesel exhaust fluid terminal in Struthers, Ohio, the short line's parent company Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) announced this week.

The short line will deliver the urea needed to produce the diesel exhaust fluid at the terminal. Pilot/Flying J will transload the fluid to trucks for delivery to area retail travel centers, according to a G&W press release.

Engines in diesel-powered vehicles rely on diesel exhaust fluid to lower nitrogen oxide emissions, in accordance with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2010 heavy-duty engine and vehicle emissions standards, railroad officials said.

MVRY is pleased to be participating in the emerging diesel exhaust fluid market by offering Pilot/Flying J a safe and cost-effective option for receiving raw material, said Dave Ebbrecht, president of the eastern Ohio short line.

"We are also well-positioned to support other industries in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania and help companies within those markets develop transload or direct rail solutions," he said.
