Yesterday, The Broe Group announced that Halliburton plans to establish a major sand terminal in the Great Western Industrial Park in Windsor, Colo., to accommodate energy production demand in the Denver-Julesburg Basin and Niobrara Formation.

To be served by the Great Western Railway of Colorado L.L.C. — a short line owned by Broe subsidiary OmniTRAX Inc. — the terminal would be built on a 54-acre site in the 1,800-acre industrial park. Construction is slated to begin in the first quarter with operations scheduled to start in the second quarter.

"Working with companies like Halliburton, we're able to bring solutions to the energy services sector, originating sand from around the country and transporting it by rail," said Rich Montgomery, vice president of Broe affiliate Great Western Development Co., in a prepared statement. "This new terminal … will serve Colorado's booming oil and gas industry, and underscore the competitive advantages of rail service and innovative supply chain management.”

Earlier this month, Broe announced that Musket Corp. plans to build a pipeline-by-rail facility in the industrial park.
