The Indiana Rail Road Co. (INRD) announced last week that it has canceled the 2020 run of its Santa Train due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The train travels to communities in the INRD's service areas every December. This year, however, railroad officials were unable to find a safe way to operate the train during a pandemic.

"The health, security and safety of our employees and community must be our first priority," INRD officials said in a Facebook post. "Our team is already looking forward to seeing everyone in 2021."

INRD's Santa Train is the second holiday train celebration to be canceled in response to the pandemic. Last week, Kansas City Southern announced it would not run its Holiday Express train, but it would mark the charitable program's 20th year with a fundraiser.
