Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad will receive a $2.38 million grant through the federal Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program, U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) announced late last week.

The grant will be used to help pay for rail infrastructure improvements between Michigan City and La Porte, Indiana, according to a press release issued by Young's office.

An affiliate of Anacostia Rail Holdings Co., the railroad serves a "vital economic corridor" for northern Indiana, Young said.

"Federal investment in this critical corridor will improve rail safety and support continued economic growth in this important Hoosier manufacturing region," he said.
