The Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad Corp. (IC&E) is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who tampered with switches on Oct. 20.

IC&E employees discovered a switch in Muscatine, Iowa, that had its lock removed and was aligned to direct trains in the wrong direction. Workers also found several other switches in the railroad's Muscatine yard that were released and set in a position that would derail trains.

"We are asking for help from anyone who may know anything about this incident or any suspicious activities in this area between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Oct. 20," said IC&E President & Chief Executive Officer Kevin Schieffer in a prepared statement. "We are also asking for the public's help in reporting any other suspicious activity observed along the railroad's right of way by calling your local law enforcement officials immediately."

Federal Bureau of Investigation and local authorities are investigating the incidents. Anyone with information is encouraged to call IC&E Superintendent Tom Farance at 563-441-5915.
