Iowa Interstate Railroad Ltd. (IAIS) recently opened a new locomotive maintenance shop and crew change center near South Amana, Iowa.

The more than 600-mile regional has named the facility the Dennis H. Miller Locomotive Maintenance Works to honor Dennis Miller, who was IAIS' president from July 2004 to April 2012 and currently serves as vice chairman and an adviser on operating and marketing matters.

The 30,000-square-foot facility is designed to service up to four locomotives at a time. The shop features fueling and sanding stations, a locomotive wash bay, overhead cranes and underground walkways.

About 40 workers — including locomotive machinists and electricians, car repair specialists, and track and structures personnel — will be employed at the facility.
