Agricultural product cooperative GROWMARK Inc. plans to build a dry fertilizer storage facility in Stuart, Iowa, that will be served by Iowa Interstate Railroad Ltd.
To be completed in fall, the facility is designed to store 15,500 tons of fertilizer. Construction is slated to start in spring on the facility, which will be operated by cooperative AGRILAND FS Inc.
The Stuart facility will save the cost of replacing a dry fertilizer building in Winterset, said John Knobloch, AGRILAND FS’ general manager, in a prepared statement.
The railroad’s connections with all Class Is at multiple locations, along with its access to the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, will help provide the new venture an enhanced transportation alternative to the region, said Carrie Evans, Iowa Interstate’s vice president of sales and marketing.
