Ironhorse Resources Inc. (IHR) has acquired the Sequatchie Valley Railroad (SQVR) and the Walking Horse and Eastern Railroad (WHOE) in Tennessee, the company announced earlier this week.The short lines will be renamed the Sequatchie Valley Switching Company (SQSC) and the Walking Horse Railroad (WHRR). Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.As IHR has pursued growth and acquisitions throughout its franchise, it has specifically targeted growth in Tennessee to bolster operational efficiencies and marketing in the region, said President and Matt Cundiff in a press release."The addition of SQSC and WHRR will add diversification to our commodity base, increase our relationship with the CSX, and additionally provide the ability to market industrial sites available on both railroads and rail connectivity to the Tennessee River,” he said.SQSC is an 11.5-mile short line serving south central Tennessee from a connection with CSX at Bridgeport, Alabama. The railroad's chief sources of traffic are gypsum, drywall, plastics and rail-car storage.WHRR is an 8-mile short line service middle Tennessee from a connection with CSX at Wartrace, Tennessee. The short line's chief sources of traffic are soybean oil, molasses, plastics and rail-car storage.
