Maalt LP has begun commercial operation at its Big Lake terminal in Texas, which is located on Texas Pacifico Transportation Ltd.'s line.

Texas Pacifico will offer unit train and manifest rail service to the terminal, Maalt officials said yesterday in a press release.

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Maalt and its related companies specialize in transloading, storing, trucking and producing frac sand. The company has 12 transload locations in Texas and Oklahoma.

The Big Lake terminal sits on 205 acres, where the first phase of the terminal project involved construction of 10,000 feet of track, which will be used for rail-to-truck frac sand transloading service.

Maalt also plans to build a loop track and silo storage at the terminal.

On March 12, the company received its first 75-car unit train from Vista Sand, said Maalt President Marty Robertson.

"This location is ideally positioned to serve the Wolfcamp Shale within the Midland Basin and should result in reduced logistics costs for sand delivered to the well for our customers," Robertson said. "We see Big Lake being a terminal that will remain busy for many years to come."
