Michigan short line, dinner train provider boosts business in 2005

Adrian & Blissfield Railroad Co. increased freight traffic and dinner train ridership during its second quarter, which ended July 31. Automotive and fertilizer traffic rose 39 percent and 119 percent, respectively, while dinner train ridership shot up 40 percent compared with the same 2004 period. In addition, quarterly revenue increased 23 percent compared with the first quarter and 2 percent compared with second-quarter 2004.

During a six-month period ending July 31, automotive and fertilizer carloads rose 71 percent and 128 percent, respectively, compared with a similar period last year. Dinner train ridership increased 33 percent and revenue, 29 percent.

"We are seeing growth, especially in our entertainment business, and positive signs with our industrial and agricultural freight business,” said Adrian & Blissfield General Manager Dale Pape in a prepared statement.

Located in Westland, Mich., Adrian & Blissfield provides freight service through the Adrian & Blissfield, Charlotte Southern, Detroit Connecting, Lapeer Industrial and Tecumseh Branch Connecting railroads; and dinner train service through The Old Dinner Trains in Blissfield and Charlotte, Mich.
