Mississippi Export Railroad (MSE) recently held a gold spike groundbreaking ceremony for a rail-car repair shop specializing in tank-car qualification services to be built at the Helena Industrial Complex in Moss Point, Mississippi.

The Mark B. Miller Rail-Car Repair Shop — named after the company's retired vice president of operations — will serve outside customers and provide tank qualification, cleaning, and blast and painting services, MSE officials said in a news release.

The new tank qualification center will be built on a 12-acre site, according to MSE President and CEO Kate Bourgeois.

"The complex site is certified and shovel-ready to begin construction. We hope to add up to 24 new full-time jobs within the first five years of operation," she said.

The qualification process involves visual inspections, structural integrity checks, thickness testing, safety system evaluations, complete valve rebuilds, leakage pressure tests and internal coating inspections.
