Rail News: Short Lines & Regionals
Last month, Norfolk Southern Corp. held its annual short line marketing meeting in Roanoke, Va. The event drew representatives from 189 of the 237 short lines that interchange with NS, according to the Class I’s July newsletter.
NS and short line officials discussed business development opportunities, service, safety, technological innovations, the Thoroughbred Operating Plan and Interline Service Agreements (ISA). NS officials also demonstrated changes to Web-based accessNS, which now includes an ISA scorecard measurement application designed to manage interchange performance.
“The meeting format allowed NS to showcase developments in areas designed to streamline our transportation, operations, marketing and sales interfaces with those short line connections,” said John Kraemer, NS assistant vice president of short line marketing. “Our focus was on how to grow our business, take our relationship to the next level and identify avenues to work more closely together.”
