North Carolina & Virginia Railroad Co. (NCVA), a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W), will serve a new $875 million specialty steel-manufacturing plant for US Forged Rings (USFR) in Cofield, North Carolina.
Once operational, the plant will manufacture forged rings, tubular components and large-scale steel fabrications for construction, power generation, nuclear, offshore wind, oil and gas, defense and aerospace industries across the United States, G&W officials said in a press release.
NCVA is providing track design consultations to USFR for establishing rail service to the facility. NCVA officials anticipate the railroad will haul inbound steel plate and slab, as well as outbound components, for USFR.
“With new rail infrastructure and strong public-private partnerships, Hertford County is a prime location for manufacturing and is bolstered by dependable freight-rail service from NCVA, which has long-standing roots in the area economy and offers customers a connection to the broader North American freight-rail network via CSX," said G&W CEO Michael Miller.
USFR has a strategic supply chain partnership with steel manufacturer Nucor Corp., and the new plant will be adjacent to Nucor’s steel processing facility in Cofield. NCVA has served the Nucor plant since 2000.
