The North Shore Railroad Co. (NSHR) yesterday ran its first train in Snyder County, Pennsylvania.

Operated by NSHR, the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority (JRA) in April purchased the rail lines that serve Kreamer, Selinsgrove and Shamokin Dam from Norfolk Southern Railway. The Class I had been operating the lines since 1999 after buying them from Conrail, NSHR officials said in a press release.

The Selinsgrove Branch of the JRA is now an extension of the original NSHR line, which also serves customers in Northumberland, Danville, Bloomsburg, Berwick and Beach Haven. The track addition brings the company's total track miles to 215 miles.

"The mission of the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority is to preserve essential rail freight infrastructure, and foster rail-served industrial development. The acquisition of the Selinsgrove branch line fulfills those goals exactly," said JRA Chairman Russ Graham.

The SEDA-COG JRA is a joint venture between five short lines, including NSHR, that seeks to provide and preserve freight-rail service and further economic development in central Pennsylvania.
