The North Shore Railroad Co. & Affiliates (NSHR) last week announced that its first fundraiser event raised $19,690 to benefit nonprofit veteran groups.
Based in Northcumberland, Pennsylvania, NSHR raised the funds by providing train rides out of Lewisburg, holding a raffle and conducting merchandise sales. The funds were awarded to two nonprofits: Lycoming County Hometown Heroes and Expedition Orange, according to an NSHR press release.
In May, NSHR's military units — the LVRR 9052 and the LVRR 9050 — were unveiled and dedicated in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Last month, the units were used in passenger service for the first time in the Inaugural Veterans Benefit Voyage in Lewisburg, where 100% of ticket sales were donated as part of the fundraiser.
