OmniTRAX has been awarded $120.7 million in Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program grants from the Federal Railroad Administration, the company announced yesterday.

The four grants will provide critical infrastructure funding for 10 of its railroads and projects in Alabama, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio and Washington, OmniTRAX officials said in a press release.

One project that will benefit from the grant awards is the Home Depot’s 386,000-square-foot rail-served flatbed distribution center in Colorado’s Access 25 Logistics Park. The facility is served by Great Western Railway, one of the 10 OmniTRAX railroads awarded a CRISI grant.

Meanwhile, R. J. Corman Railroad Group yesterday announced it will benefit from two CRISI grants totaling over $35 million, which will fund improvement projects in Kentucky and Ohio, company officials said in a press release.

The first grant, amounting to $32.1 million, is designated for the Kentucky Freight Rail Improvement Program, which includes the rehabilitation of track on three short-line corridors. The second grant, totaling $3.2 million, is awarded to the Rural Ohio-Appalachian Rail Rehabilitation project, which calls for track rehabilitation and grade crossing improvements at two locations on R. J. Corman’s Cleveland line in Summit, Stark, and Tuscarawas counties, Ohio.

"These projects will enhance the safety and efficiency of our operations, support economic growth in the regions we serve, and demonstrate our commitment to providing high-quality rail services," said R.J. Corman Railroad Group President and CEO Ed Quinn III.
