Georgia-Pacific Corp.'s future lumber plant in Albany, Georgia, will be connected to the mainline of Georgia & Florida Railway LLC (GFRR), an affiliate of OmniTRAX Inc.

A rail line will be constructed from the plant to GFRR's mainline in the adjacent Albany-Dougherty Industrial Park, OmniTRAX officials said in a press release.

Construction of the new rail line and related crossing and communications upgrades is expected to begin this month and wrap up next year. Construction on the $150 million, 320,000-square-foot Georgia-Pacific plant also is slated to begin this year.

"Georgia-Pacific is a great partner for OmniTRAX and the GFRR, and the new plant will allow us to show case our customer service expertise even more," said Kevin Shuba, OmniTRAX's chief executive officer.

The plant is expected to produce 300 million board-feet of lumber a year, which translates to more than 1,250 rail cars of building materials and wood chips transported on the GFRR per year, OmniTRAX officials said.
