OmniTRAX joins BiTA

OmniTRAX Inc., on behalf of its managed and affiliated railroads, has joined the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA), the company announced yesterday.

OmniTRAX is the first short-line company to join, OmniTRAX officials said in a press release.

Founded last year, BiTA is a forum for transportation and logistics industries to learn about and adopt blockchain applications and technology designed to create efficiency and transparency in business.

"As a leading transportation services company, we want to have a positive impact on efficiency, security and transparency for our customers and partners, and that's what blockchain offers," said OmniTRAX Chief Financial Officer Hubert Gassner. "It is critical for the short line and regional railroad sector of the transportation industry to have a seat at the table when supply chain technology standards that can enhance performance are discussed."

Earlier this year, BNSF Railway Co. and Kansas City Southern announced they had joined the alliance.
