On Feb. 6, OmniTRAX Inc. announced it promoted Executive Vice President-Rail Robert Parker to chief operating officer.

A 26-year railroading veteran, Parker will assume day-to-day operational responsibilities — including those for short-line and switching subsidiaries, intermodal facilities and a locomotive maintenance division — from OmniTRAX President Dwight Johnson, who plans to concentrate on acquisition opportunities.

"We have some very aggressive acquisition and growth initiatives in the coming 18 to 24 months," said Johnson in a prepared statement.

In August 2003, Parker joined OmniTRAX after serving RailAmerica Inc. for eight years in various positions, lastly as senior vice president, North/Atlantic Corridor.

OmniTRAX owns and operates 11 short lines, five switching outfits and nine intermodal facilities in the United States and Canada, and provides third-party locomotive maintenance services.
