Patriot Rail Corp. now has owned the Tennessee Southern Railroad (TSRR) for one year — and what a year it's been for the 149-mile short line.

Carloads have increased 29 percent to 6,637 units and the railroad reached an agreement with Louisiana Pacific Corp. for new transload facility, extended an operating lease at the Port of Florence and attracted five new customers.

"TSRR has definitely exceeded our expectations in its first year under our ownership," said Patriot Rail Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Marino in a prepared statement. "The TSRR management team has [taken] advantage of the railroad's unique port access, transload services and multi-modal capabilities to secure new business and grow carloads."

Patriot Rail also owns the 63-mile Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway in Montana.
