Pennsylvania ponies up $10 million to help small roads fund infrastructure improvements

On Oct. 14, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) released $10 million in grants to help fund regional and short-line track-improvement projects.
PennDOT's Bureau of Rail Freight, Ports and Waterways oversees the grant program, which is designed to help the state's 69 small roads improve infrastructure.
The grants include:
• $2.8 million to Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad Inc. to rehabilitate a Creekside-to-Homer City mainline and a line to Petrolia;
• $1.8 million to Delaware & Hudson Railway Co. Inc. to continue rehabilitating a mainline from Sunbury to Taylor Yard near Scranton;
• $1.3 million to Keystone Railroad (doing business as Philadelphia, Bethlehem & New England Railroad Co.) to construct an all-purpose rail/truck distribution center in Northampton County;
• $1 million to RJ Corman Railroad Co. to rehabilitate the "Clearfield cluster" in three counties;
• $750,000 to Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad Co. to rehabilitate a mainline and passing track, and reconstruct 75 track miles in three counties;
• $750,000 to Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad Co. to rehabilitate and repair track in six counties;
• $533,125 to SJA Construction Inc. to rehabilitate and repair track, and purchase loading/unloading equipment for a rail facility at Girard Point in Philadelphia;
• $438,000 to SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority to install continuous-welded rail on Nittany & Bald Eagle Railroad Co's line running through three counties;
• $340,000 to Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad to upgrade and rebuild the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad's track in three counties; and
• $300,000 to the Redevelopment Authority of Luzerne County to rehabilitate a 56-mile segment of Luzerne & Susquehanna Railroad's line in Luzerne County.
