Pipeline Foods LLC has acquired a grain elevator in Atlantic, Iowa, from Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM).

Pipeline Foods plans to install new equipment and make improvements necessary to upgrade the elevator to test, clean, grade, dry, store and ship organic grains. ADM will continue to maintain soybean originations at the elevator.

The acquisition will support protein producers' growing demand for U.S.-grown organic grains, Pipeline Food officials said in a press release. The 3.4 million-bushel capacity elevator is located in the heart of the western corn belt near major rail and truck routes, enabling the company to originate organic grain from Iowa and surrounding states, they added.

The elevator is served by Iowa Interstate Railroad Ltd., which has access to all Class Is and interchanges with several short lines.

Pipeline Foods plans to begin operations at the elevator in mid-September, then start accepting organic grain deliveries shortly afterward.
