In the newly created position, Zink will execute a strategy to locate new industries on the regional's network, RRVW officials said in a press release. Based in Wahpeton, N.D., he will report to RRVW President Nate Asplund.

In addition, Zink will lead the railroad's engagement with state, county and local leaders, and oversee property and contract management.

Zink joined the railroad in 1992, when he was named director of administration responsible for finance and accounting, business development, legislative affairs and capital investment analysis. Before his time at RRVW, Zink was a research associate at the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute.

He currently serves as a director on the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association's board and on community development boards in Wahpeton.
