Yesterday, RailAmerica Inc. reported June carloads totaling 105,429 units, a 3.8 percent increase compared with June 2004.

However, “same railroad” carloads totaling 100,043 units decreased 0.7 percent because of reduced Powder River Basin coal traffic. Same railroad totals exclude carloads associated with railroads or portions of railroads sold or acquired after Jan. 1, 2004.

During the year’s first half, RailAmerica increased carloads 8.7 percent to 656,949 units compared with the same 2004 period. Same railroad carloads totaling 623,827 units rose 3.9 percent.

RailAmerica owns and operates 43 regionals and short lines in the United States and Canada.
