Railmark Holdings Inc. has acquired Yreka Western Railroad Co., a short line serving Siskiyou County, Calif.

In operation since 1889, the railroad interchanges with Union Pacific Railroad and Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad in Montague, Calif.

In addition to offering direct rail services to industrial customers located on the line, Railmark provides transloading, intermodal and rail-car mechanical services, according to a press release from the company.

Under Railmark's ownership, Yreka Western will "aggressively" offer industrial development services, company officials said. The railroad's freight traffic primarily is wood chips, forest products, propane and a variety of transload commodities.

"Railmark is looking forward to transforming the Yreka Western Railroad into a modern and important driver for the area’s economy and using this acquisition to expand Railmark’s footprint to the Pacific Northwest market," said Railmark President and Chief Executive Officer Allen Brown.

Financial terms of the acquisition weren't disclosed in the press release.
