Rail News: Short Lines & Regionals
BG & CM Railroad recently filed a notice of exemption with Surface Transportation Board to acquire from Camas Prairie RailNet Inc. 66.8 track miles between Spalding and Grangeville, Idaho.
In September 2000, STB authorized Camas Prarie RailNet to abandon the track. But in January 2003, non-carrier BG & CM received board approval to negotiate a certificate of interim trail use (CITU) for the line.
BG & CM later acquired all real estate, and track, ties and other materials to conduct rail operations. The railroad now plans to reactivate service on 52 of the track miles and "rail bank" the remaining 14.8 track miles for future trail use under CITU guidelines, according to the STB filing.
Camas Prairie RailNet is owned by holding company North American RailNet Inc., which also owns Mississippi & Tennessee RailNet Inc., Alberta RailNet Inc., Georgia & Florida RailNet Inc., Illinois RailNet Inc., and Nebraska, Kansas & Colorado RailNet Inc.
