The Reading & Northern Railroad has completed the first test runs of steam locomotive No. 2102 following a five-year rebuild.
A T1 Class steam locomotive built by the Reading Co. in 1945, the unit has been out of service since 1991. A $2.4 million restoration began in 2017.
The locomotive set out April 6 for its first test run, with railroad owner and CEO Andy Muller Jr. lighting the fire two days earlier, Reading & Northern officials said in a press release.
"The engine performed amazingly," Muller said.
The locomotive's first Iron Horse Rambles excursion is planned for May 28. Train trips will run round-trip from Reading Outer Station to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.
