BNSF Railway Co. announced the Red River Valley & Western Railroad (RRVW) is the fifth railroad to join the Class I's Shortline Select program.

In an April 4 post on X.com, BNSF said the RRVW operates more than 500 miles of track in the southeast quarter of North Dakota and operates as far north as Maddock, North Dakota. The short line serves more than 70 customers, including 13 grain shuttle facilities, 33 grain elevators and a number of processors.

Launched in September 2024, BNSF's Shortline Select program enables participating short lines to improve their operations with predefined economic arrangements with BNSF.

The other short lines that have joined the program are Genesee & Wyoming Inc.’s Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway and Portland & Western Railway, as well as the Burlington Junction Railway and TNW Corp.’s Texas Northwestern Railroad.
