Riverport Railroad L.L.C. and the Rescar Cos. recently announced that construction had begun on a rail-car cleaning facility at Savanna Depot Park in Savanna, Ill. Work started on Aug. 6 and is slated to be completed by October.

Riverport Railroad is funding new rail and crossings for the facility. Rescar began rail-car repair operations at the park in 2003 with a mobile unit.

“We have enjoyed a solid working relationship with Rescar and are delighted to confirm an extended relationship that will be important to economic growth in the area,” said Riverport Railroad President and Chief Executive Officer Jack Koster in a prepared statement.

Adds Rescar Vice President of Field Service Operations and Corporate Safety Scott Driggers: “Combining the new cleaning service with regulatory compliance work on rail cars, we anticipate our current workforce could double over the next several years.”
